The Listening Session
The goal of this listening session is to gather input from you and others to better understand how the shocks and stressors of climate change are impacting the region’s senior community, and how the region can be more prepared and responsive to the community’s unique needs. Your input will inform an actionable report with mitigation and adaptation recommendations for the local municipalities and communities to utilize and build upon, including targeted programming, enhanced emergency preparedness and infrastructure improvements.
The listening session will consist of approximately 12 participants. Please note that we will make every effort to keep your identity confidential in any publications or presentations resulting from this work.
We will email all participants an informed consent form a few days before the session, as well as location details and Covid-19 safety guidelines.
The session will be held in-person at the Malibu Community Labor Exchange located at 23595 Civic Center Way, Malibu.

The Project
The Malibu Foundation, in partnership with the Resource Conservation District of the Santa Monica Mountains, Climate Resolve, Resilient Palisades, the LA Emergency Preparedness Foundation, and LA County’s Office of Sustainability is leading a community-based climate vulnerability assessment (CVA) and resilience planning project focused on the Santa Monica Mountain Wildlife-Urban Interface (WUI) communities of Agoura, Calabasas, Hidden Hills, Malibu, the Pacific Palisades, Topanga and Westlake Village. This collaboration is called the Resilient Santa Monica Mountains (SMM) Project.
Overarching Project Objectives:
Raise awareness about the climate crisis and measures to reduce carbon emissions
Build lasting community-based collaborations and strategic partnerships
Promote diverse stakeholder engagement, community connectivity, inclusivity and equity, health and wellbeing
Analyze the potential interactions between physical infrastructure and social vulnerabilities
Inform public health preparedness and response planning
Propose measures, policy recommendations and targeted programs to increase the region’s climate resilience, and capacity to mitigate and adapt to the shocks and stressors of climate change
